Limited edition Subaru WRX STI S207 to be revealed at Tokyo Motor Show
A limited edition 2016 Subaru WRX STI S207 will be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show. Will fans see it hit U.S. shores?
Subaru will bring the "S207", an STI complete car based on the 2016 WRX STI to the Tokyo Motor Show 2015. It could be the same car that was testing at Suzuka Circuit in Japan in April. It looks like the car is ready and will be officially unveiled on October 28 and 29 at the press days event.
Subaru didn't reveal any information about the WRX STI S207, but the name tells us it's a limited edition STI like the S206 that Subaru brought out a few years ago for the Japan market. Just 300 examples of that model were produced and it came with engine, suspension and exterior upgrades. The 2016 Subaru WRX STI seen testing recently fits the same description and like the S206, it won't be sold in the U.S.
We know from reports by Automobile that the S207 WRX STI will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer powerplant and will be upgraded with blueprinted internals, a set of carefully weighed and balanced pistons, and a larger capacity ball-bearing turbocharger. STI says it pumps out well over 300 horsepower. This is the same 2.0-liter direct injection turbo "DIT" boxer engine Subaru runs in the U.S. spec WRX, but gets more performance upgrades from Subaru Tecnica International.
The limited Edition S207 will also get Brembo brakes with six-puck calipers up front and a cat-back performance exhaust system. Too bad it will be limited to the Japan market only.
